Top mods almost always have high-quality supporting images. Look for several angles, no cropped parts, and a very clear look of what is being portrayed. If you find that something is hidden, chances are, it’s been hidden deliberately, trying to cover some of the less-pretty parts of the mod.
Mod version shows improvements
Mods often have to be tweaked, changed, and otherwise improved. Changes are not a sign that something is wrong – moreso, it’s a sign that something is getting better. The versions on FS mods come in three numbers (think 1.2.3.). The first number (1) means that gthe mod is finished and ready to go. The second number (2) implies heavier changes, such as bigger fixes or major patches. The third number (3) indicates small little tweaks, often not game-breaking or not seen with a naked eye. If you see that the mod has had several iterations, that’s good news. It means that the creator is putting in work to make the best product out there.
Check the mod descriptions
Read the mod description: it reveals a lot of secrets and shows the level of care that went in creating the mod. The description usually includes the backlog of the fixes, changelog and so on. It can also include information on the mod itself, like the price of the mod in the game, or its specifications. Sometimes there might even be some additional instructions, guides, or suggestions. Mostly the instructions are limited to the scripts: as additional elements or vehicles do not require much help.

A good mod also takes note of the game’s economy. It’s important to have a look at how much you would be paying in-game to the advantage of the mod. For instance: if you have a combine mod, compare the price of the mod combine to the similar options in-game (or better yet, check the description for the price – good mods include good descriptions!).
A sign of a professional modder is that they set the prices to be realistic. If they’re not, a mod could easily break the game’s economy. If it’s too cheap, the game would go off the rails incredibly quickly. And if you want to enjoy a realistic Farming Simulator experience, that is obviously not something you look for. The best machinery for no price sounds fun in theory, but it’s a game-breaking practice, often employed by the less experienced modders. No surprises there – the super cheap mods are also often pretty bad.
Check the mod features
FS22 mods features are an important thing to look out for. Everyone wants their downloaded mods to offer a custom and extensive list of features, but that’s often not the case. Sometimes, modders bite more than they can chew, and this results in their creations turning sideways.

Realistic machinery sounds are an absolute joy when they’re done well. It’s also one of the hardest parts to do well: if it’s a fully custom piece of machinery, its sounds actually have to come from a recording of a real-life version. And so, if you try out the mod and hear fully custom sounds, and not the default audio, you know you’re in for a treat.
