The T 188 was a further development of the T 185, from which the superstructure was taken over. Important innovations were the joystick control and the panorama cabin for improved working comfort. A sliding plate or optional 4-point support as well as the fully hydraulic device control and the hydraulic travel drive were important and necessary improvements compared to its predecessor.
